Adding an Ocean Wake
Learn how to add a disturbed water pattern behind ships. (Mechanism only)
Follow these steps to add an ocean wake extension to your mechanism:
- If you are not already in the Mechanism editor, either open an existing mechanism or create a new one.
- Select Marine from the Toolbox, select Ocean Wake, then drag it into the 3DÂ View.
The Ocean Wake extension appears in the Explorer tree and the Ocean Wake extension's parameters appear in the Properties panel. - You must select the point from which the bow wave generates:
- Add Connections for the wake in the Explorer panel.
- As an input, drag and drop the wake's Parent Transform from its Properties panel.
- As an output, drag and drop the World Transform of the attachment or part from where you want the wake to generate.
- You can now set any of the following parameters:
- Width: Enter a value to override the actual width of the vessel in meters. (Default is 1.0 m)
- Length: Enter a value to override the actual length of the vessel in meters. (Default is 1.0 m)
- Draft: The depth the hull extends from the ship down underwater (in meters) (Default is 1.0 m)
- Speed Threshold: The speed above which the wake begins to form. (Default is 0.010 m/s)
- Propeller effect: Enable this option if you want this wake to generate propeller backwash effects (graphics only). (Enabled by default)
- Spray effect: Enable this option if you want this wake to emit spray particles (graphics only). (Enabled by default)
- Bow wave effect:Â Enable this option if you want this wake to generate a bow wave (graphics only). (Enabled by default)
- Stern wave effect: Enable this option if you want this wake to generate a stern wave (graphics only). (Enabled by default)
- Stern wave offset: Enter a value (in meters) to offset the stern wave from its source.
- Kelvin wave foam scale: Specifies a value to scale the Kelvin wave foam.
- Kelvin wave minimum amplitude scale: Specifies a value to scale the minimum Kelvin wave amplitude.
- Kelvin wave maximum amplitude scale: Specifies a value to scale the maximum Kelvin wave amplitude.
- Kelvin wave scale: Specifies a value to scale Kelvin waves.
- Kelvin wave gravity scale: Specifies a value to scale the gravity force as it acts on Kelvin waves.
- Kelvin wave fade in scale: Specifies a value to scale the fade-in time of Kelvin waves.
